Bishop Francis Serrao conducted the Pastoral Visit of St. Joseph’s Church, Sagar from 19th to 21st December, 2015. The main objective of this pastoral visit was to come into personal contact with the priests, religious and lay people at Sagar and assess the pastoral life of the parish from a faith perspective, to glance at the parish community and its main associations, faith formation at all stages, sacramental and liturgical life, the sense of community, co-responsibility and service to the Parish, the relationship of the parish with the diocese and the universal Church.
The Bishop was welcomed at the City Corporation, Sagar at 5.00 PM. There was a procession to the Church followed by a prayer service in the church and blessing of the cemetery. At 6.30 Bishop took catechism class to the confirmation candidates and then visited St. Joseph’s Convent, Sagar.
On 20th of December, Sunday, along with the faithful, Bishop celebrated the Holy Eucharist during which he administered the sacrament of confirmation to 85 children of the Parish. After the Mass he met the members of each association of parish: first the core -committees of small Christian Communities, then Altar boys, Legion of Mary juniors and seniors. At 4.00 PM., he met the youth associations and the Parish Council, Finance Committee and members of Vincent de Paul Society.
On the Last day of the visit, the Bishop began the day with Holy Mass in the convent followed by communion to the sick of the Parish. At 9.30 AM, Bishop visited 3 different schools followed by a Baptism. Then bishop had the interaction with the teachers of all the schools. There was also a short meeting with Parish Priest. Then at 4.30 PM the Parish Council members and all the children and faithful bid farewell to the bishop.
It was an awesome experience to have our shepherd with us for three precious days .
